Dr. Leon A. Hyer, Jr. is Professor of Psychiatry at the Mercer Medical School and the Georgia Neurosurgical Institute. After receiving his BA from St. Peter's College summa cum laude in Psychology in 1967, he continued his studies at the Lehigh University, from which he received his doctorate in Psychology in 1970. His internships were served at the Brook Army Medical Center and the Lyons Veterans Administration Medical Center up until 1973. He completed three year postdoctoral fellowship in Geriatrics at Duke University, Center for Aging and HD. He is board certified in clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).
Prior to joining the Mercer Medical School, Department of Psychiatry and the Georgia Neurosurgical Institute in 2006, Dr. Hyer worked for several universities and medical schools including the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, University of Georgia, and the Medical College of Georgia.
